Penn State Beaver baseball defeated Penn State Schuylkill 18-4 on Sunday to claim the Penn State University Athletic Conference championship. Beaver, which came into the conference tournament as the No. 5 seed, squeaked by Penn State Brandywine on Friday and defeated Penn State DuBois and Schuylkill on Saturday before winning the title.
Beaver IST student Joseph Pry was awarded an Erickson Discovery Grant to work on a framework for transporting encrypted medical records via mobile device.
Beaver psychology major Maura Francis will be the first in her family to graduate from college and the first to go on to graduate school. She plans to use her childhood struggles as a launching pad for her future.
Beginning April 16, about 20 Penn State Beaver students will build a city of cardboard boxes in downtown Beaver and live there for 48 hours, sleeping on the ground and begging for money, all in the name of homelessness awareness. All proceeds will benefit area homeless shelters.
In 2007, Penn State Beaver’s student affairs staff invited students from six regional Penn State campuses to Beaver County on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The idea was to harness the power of Penn State, volunteering at numerous sites in the area and making a big impact on a small community. The Penn State Regional MLK Day of Service event is now in its eighth year and rotates between seven campuses — Beaver, Altoona, Behrend, DuBois, Fayette, Greater Allegheny and New Kensington.
An Engineering Technology and Commonwealth Engineering Program Enhancement Grant will allow the Beaver campus to purchase a CNC router for engineering students to prototype their designs.
