Pre-Arrival Guide

International Student Pre-Arrival Guide

Welcome to Penn State Beaver!

Congratulations on your admission to Penn State Beaver! We are excited that you have chosen to become part of our campus community.

Moving to a new country is a big step, and we're here to help make your transition as smooth as possible. This guide will walk you through everything you need to do before you arrive, what to expect when you get here, and where to find help along the way.

Throughout the next few months, you will receive important emails from Penn State Global and Penn State Beaver. Please read each email carefully and complete any requested tasks by the stated deadlines.

Before You Arrive

✅ Step 1: Obtain Your Student Visa

Complete the following immigration requirements:

  • Submit your financial guarantee.
  • Request your I-20.
  • Pay the SEVIS I-901 fee.
  • Schedule and attend your visa interview.
  • Receive your F-1 student visa.

Need assistance?

Penn State Global's Pre-Arrival Team is available to answer questions regarding immigration documents, visa applications, and travel preparation. Kandy Szymsiak [email protected] works specifically with Beaver International Students. Please check your email often for updates.

✅ Step 2: Secure Your Housing

If you plan to live on campus, request your Housing and Food Services (HFS) contract as early as possible.

Housing is limited and contracts are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Students living on campus will reside in Harmony Hall, located just steps away from classrooms, dining, recreation, and student services.

Please remember that accepting your housing contract creates a legally binding agreement.

Contact [email protected] with any questions.

✅ Step 3: Register for Classes

Before arriving, you'll meet virtually with your academic adviser to schedule your first semester classes.

To arrange your advising appointment, contact:
Gretchen Samchuck
Email: [email protected]

✅ Step 4: Complete Your Health Requirements

Before traveling to the United States:

  • Translate all medical records into English.
  • Bring copies of your immunization records.
  • Upload immunization records through myUHS.
  • Complete all required health forms before the deadline.

Health Insurance

International students are automatically enrolled in Penn State's Student Health Insurance Plan unless an approved waiver has been completed.

✅ Step 5: Complete Online Orientation

Before arriving in the United States, complete the required online orientation provided by Penn State Global. This orientation introduces immigration regulations, campus resources, and student expectations.

✅ Step 6: Book Your Travel

After your visa has been approved, purchase your airline ticket.

Arrival Airport

Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) - Approximately 17 miles (27 km) from Penn State Beaver

Fall 2026 International should plan to arrive by Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

Detailed arrival instructions, airport transportation information, move-in dates, and orientation schedules will be emailed before the semester begins. If you have questions, please contact Jill Bender [email protected].
