High School Dual Enrollment

Penn State Beaver offers on-campus dual enrollment opportunities to high school students who would like to earn college credit while enrolled in high school. Through this program, qualified students earn college credits and experience the workload of a college class.

Credits earned can be applied to a Penn State degree and are part of the transcript recognized at all Penn State campuses. Students applying to other colleges and universities can request an official Penn State transcript be sent to another institution for transfer credit consideration.

Prior to submitting a dual credit application, students are encouraged to meet with their high school counselor to discuss how dual enrollment coursework may fit into their high school schedule.

Eligibility

High school juniors and seniors with a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 are eligible for dual enrollment. Exceptions may be made for promising students who do not meet the above criteria.

High school seniors may enroll in up to 8 credits per fall and spring semester and high school juniors may enroll in one 3- or 4-credit course per fall and spring semester. Juniors wishing to take more than one course must obtain special permission from Penn State. Total credits taken may not exceed 24.

To remain in the program, students must earn a grade of C or better in each course.

Courses

Dual enrollment courses are taught by faculty approved to teach high school students. The course list for the Spring 2026 semester will be available in October 2025.

Schedules are subject to change. Courses may fill and no longer be available for dual enrollment. Preference is given to degree-seeking students. View our approved dual enrollment list for Fall 2025.

For course descriptions, search for the course name (i.e. ENGL 15) in the Undergraduate Bulletin.

How to apply

  • Review the approved dual enrollment course list.
  • Contact your school counselor to inform them that you are interested in dual enrollment at Penn State Beaver and to receive a copy of your high school transcript.

  • Students who have not yet completed their junior year must also submit a letter of recommendation from a high school teacher, counselor, or principal.

Depending on course selection, you may be required to take an online math placement test.

If you have questions or would like to talk through your options regarding dual enrollment, please contact us at [email protected] or 724-773-3800.

Application deadlines

  • August 1 for fall semester (late August to mid-December)
  • December 1 for spring semester (mid-January to late April)

Cost and payment

Penn State University’s tuition for courses available through the Program is updated annually and is publicly reported through Penn State’s Tuition Calculator, located on the University Bursar's website.

Dual Enrollment students are offered a Penn State grant-in-aid of 50 percent of the cost of tuition. Students are responsible for paying the other 50 percent and all applicable student fees. In addition, students are responsible for the cost of books, which varies according to the class in which the student is enrolled. Dual Enrollment students do not receive financial aid and are not eligible for loans.
