External Scholarships

The following external scholarship providers are not affiliated with Penn State and specifically request applications from students attending or planning to attend Penn State Beaver:

The Shaw Family Trust

The Shaw Family Trust was created at The Pittsburgh Foundation to provide scholarships to high school seniors from Beaver County who are entering their freshman year of college at Penn State Beaver. Students must have a minimum high school grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 to qualify and must maintain a college 3.0 GPA to be eligible to reapply. In addition, students must have a demonstrated financial need. Application materials are available at The Pittsburgh Foundation.

United Negro College Fund (UNCF)/Merck Undergraduate Science Research Scholarships

Fifteen awards of up to $35,000 each are given to African American students in junior status who are majoring in life science or physical science and have a minimum GPA of 3.3. An application is available by visiting the United Negro College Fund. The annual scholarship application deadline is mid-December.

Sons of Italy National Leadership Grant Competition

This competition offers 10-13 merit-based scholarships ranging from $4,000 to $25,000 for students who are American citizens of Italian descent (at least one Italian or Italian American grandparent). For information and an application, please visit the Sons of Italy for more information. The annual scholarship application deadline is the end of February.

Pittsburgh Advertising Federation Scholarship

Generally in the amount of $1,500, this scholarship is awarded to junior or senior students who demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in advertising. To obtain an application please visit the Pittsburgh Foundation. The annual scholarship application deadline is early March.

Sabina Hilger Walsh and Harold Rex Walsh Scholarship Fund

This fund offers one scholarship to a sophomore student whose primary residence is in Beaver County or Allegheny County and who is pursuing a career in teaching. To obtain an application, please visit the Sabina Hilger and Harold Rex Walsh Scholarship Fund. The annual scholarship application deadline is late March.

The Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh Journalism Scholarship

The group offers two $1,500 scholarships to talented students whose career goals include working in print journalism as a reporter, copy editor, photographer, paginator, or graphics designer. Eligible students must be enrolled in a journalism program or its equivalent, must attend a four-year college or university, and must have completed four semesters. Applications must be from Western Pennsylvania (Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Washington, or Westmoreland counties) and applicants must attend a college or university within those counties. To obtain an application, please visit the Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh. The annual scholarship application deadline is early March.

National Federation of the Blind of PA Scholarship

These two $1,000 scholarships recognize achievement by blind scholars. Applicants must be legally blind; pursuing or planning to pursue a full-time, post-secondary education; and not a winner of any National Federation of the Blind scholarships within the same year. Scholarship winners are expected to participate in the entire Pennsylvania Federation of the Blind State Convention, which is usually held during a weekend in November. To obtain an application, please visit the National Federation of the Blind of PA.

American Association of University Women (AAUW), Beaver Valley Branch

This group awards a $1,500 scholarship to a non-traditional female student from Beaver County. Applicants must attend a college or university, have a GPA of 3.00 or higher, and major in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. Applicants must complete an application and a 250-word essay reflecting upon the impact of the AAUW's mission statement of advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. To obtain an application, please visit the American Association of University Women.

ASCO Numatics Engineering College Scholarship

This offers two $5,000 scholarships for United States engineering students who are pursuing careers in industrial automation-related disciplines. Applicants must be enrolled full-time in an engineering, instrumentation, systems, electrical, mechanical, or automation program and must have completed their sophomore year with a GPA of 3.2 or higher. Scholarship recipients may also be eligible for an ASCO Numatics internship. For information and an application, please visit ASCO Numatics. The annual scholarship application deadline is June 30.

Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (PMAHCC) Scholarship

PMAHCC accepts applications from January 1 through June 30 every academic year. Eligible students from Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Washington, or Westmoreland counties with unmet financial need, a GPA of at least 3.0, and at least one parent of Hispanic ancestry may request an application by contacting Gail Gray, student aid coordinator at Penn State Beaver.

The Wells Fargo Veterans Scholarship Program

Fill your financial aid gap with renewable scholarships for veterans and spouses of disabled veterans. Applicants must be an honorably discharged veteran of the US military, or the spouse of a disable veteran. Currently enrolled in full-time undergraduate, or graduate, accredited school. Have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Worth up to $10,000/year, deadline to apply is in February. To learn more and apply, visit Wells Fargo.
