2024 TLT Faculty Engagement Award recipients named, focused on AI for teaching

Penn State University Libraries’ Teaching and Learning with Technology (TLT) has named 13 recipients of the 2024 Faculty Engagement Award with this year’s theme of “Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Teaching.” Recipients will collaborate with TLT staff to identify potential uses, constraints and best practices for using generative AI for teaching purposes. Faculty will utilize available generative AI tools including Microsoft Copilot and Adobe Firefly to assist in content creation, course planning and content delivery.

Applications open for Women in Mentoring program across all campuses

Applications are now being accepted for the Technology Council of Central Pennsylvania (TCCP) Women in Mentoring program. Students, faculty and staff across all Penn State campuses have free access to virtual technology programming thanks to a partnership with TCCP spearheaded by Penn State Harrisburg, a longtime member of the council.

Penn State Beaver to host anti-human trafficking symposium Aug. 5

For the second year in a row, Penn State Beaver will host the Beaver County Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition’s symposium. The symposium is designed for attorneys, law enforcement and social workers, but it is open to anyone who wants to learn more about the topic. Registration is required.

Economics professor to retire, receive emeritus status

After 38 years at Penn State Beaver, Rajen Mookerjee, professor of economics, will retire June 28 and will receive emeritus status. Mookerjee joined Penn State in 1986 as an assistant professor of economics; he received early tenure and promotion to associate professor and attained full professor rank subsequently.

Researchers use AI, social media to identify health concerns

Researchers from Penn State University, the University of Saskatchewan and Dalhousie University have used artificial intelligence to mine information from X, formerly Twitter, to learn about the frustrations and concerns of people living with HIV and AIDS during the Covid pandemic.

Penn State Beaver professor publishes works on medieval Spanish poetry

Penn State Beaver Professor Robin Bower's book “In the Doorway of All Worlds: Gonzalo de Berceo’s Translation of the Saints” has been published by the University of Toronto Press. Bower also served as a volume editor for “A Companion to Mester de Clericia Poetry,” part of the peer-reviewed handbook series called Brill’s Companions to Medieval Literatures and Culture will be published later this summer.
