Penn State Beaver marks 20 years of continuing education for CPAs, attorneys

Professionals come back year after year to stay current in their field

Continuing education classes for certified public accountants and attorneys who need to stay current on their respective licenses begin the week of April 21 through Penn State Beaver.

MONACA, Pa. — Penn State Beaver is entering its 20th year of offering continuing education classes for certified public accountants and attorneys.

Certified public accountants and attorneys are required to have a certain a number of professional development hours to retain their license, said Jill Valentine, director of continuing education and workforce development. The courses are also helpful for new professionals or retired professionals who want to maintain their license.

Instructor-led classes are offered live via Zoom. Participants can earn 20 CPEs for accountants and 16 CLEs for attorneys.

“Our goal is to provide accessible, relevant training that not only helps professionals maintain their credentials but also delivers valuable industry insights they can apply to their day-to-day work,” Valentine said.

Richard Snyder, a retired attorney and CPA, said he has been taking classes with Penn State Beaver’s Office of Continuing Education since his retirement in 2018.

“I have found the program to be worthwhile and a cost-effective method for me to retain both my law and CPA licenses,” Snyder said. “Course content is A to Z and keeps me current on accounting, tax and even trending matters such as Artificial Intelligence. Presentations by active practitioners offer real world experiences and potential contacts for my pro bono practice.” 

CPA Vivian Spratt not only takes the continuing education classes to stay compliant with her professional requirements, she also serves on the planning committee that meets every semester to choose timely topics.

“I can confidently say the courses consistently deliver critical topics like tax law, estate planning and financial regulations in a convenient format,” Spratt said. “Best of all, I network with other professionals, and the staff’s personal attention and commitment to us makes the entire experience seamless and enjoyable. I couldn’t ask for a better professional education program.”
