Riding the Wave of Change: Predictive Tools for Small Business Owners and Marketing Managers
36th Annual Conference
Orlando, FL

Our world is complex and rapidly changing. Wars, pandemics, hurricanes, fires, recessions, and technological change seem to be ever-constant. How can business owners and marketing managers of small to medium-sized firms keep up with such ever-changing, ever-increasing exogenous economic events? When rapid change does occur, small firms and marketing managers must respond quickly to current events to take advantage of current market opportunities. As a result of such rapid change, firms need to understand their consumers and economic demand. Firms must place more emphasis on predictive data analytics and data modeling to forecast future economic demand. In this presentation, a framework is presented to help small business owners and marketing managers identify key variables to assist in understanding consumer behavior and market demand.

Penn State Beaver EDGE Program: Adapting the AAC&U Global Learning Value Rubric to Evaluate International Virtual Exchange Outcomes
International Virtual Exchange Conference (IVEC): Advancing the Field of On-Line International Learing
Tacoma, Washington

Abstract: Global learning outcomes for lesser-resourced students lie at the heart of Penn State Beaver’s Experiential Digital Global Engagement (EDGE) effort, Students who participate in EDGE learn how to interact with people of differing backgrounds, and to work with them on projects, over a distance, developing digital skills as they do so. These are all important competencies both personally and professionally in the 21st century. Because students at Penn State’s Commonwealth Campuses often have less opportunity to engage with global learning than their University Park counterparts, faculty members begin EDGE collaborations by adapting outcomes from the AAC&U global rubric to design course objectives. Using examples from two EDGEd courses taught in 2018-2019, presenters will 1.) explain the strategic pedagogical content of the EDGE effort at Penn State, 2.) explore the process of identifying and adapting AAC&U global rubric elements, and 3.) show student and instructor-reported learning outcomes from the two classes.
