Penn State Beaver's Student Success Committee has launched a new initiative to reach out to and support students.
Penn State Beaver’s Student Success Committee is on the move.
The committee, comprised of faculty and staff, supports students who need help and celebrates student achievements.
“There are so many studies that have shown that students who are more engaged with people on campus do so much better,” Debra Seidenstricker, admissions counselor and co-chair of the Student Success Committee, said.
The committee members often reach out to students who may be struggling academically.
“What we are is a resource for students,” Seidenstricker said. “If you have a question, we will get the answer for you."
Committee members host a table in the Bistro each month, but they decided to move around campus to engage with more students through the new Student Success On the Go initiative.
Each month the committee will have a table at various locations around campus where students can stop by between classes to meet the committee members.
“That sense of belonging is our big goal,” Seidenstricker said. “In order to do that, they have to be connected not only with fellow students but staff on campus.”
The upcoming times and campus locations to meet the committee are:
1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, in the gym.
10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, in the Michael Baker Building.
1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, March 3 in the Laboratory Classroom Building.
In addition to supporting the students who need assistance, the committee wants to celebrate student success. Each semester the committee hosts events like a “Sweet Success” table for students who make the Dean’s List, and they send hand-written cards to graduates each semester.
