Current Student
If you're a current student, you should meet with your academic adviser to discuss your course options and goals, then register for courses in person at the Registrar's Office or by using LionPATH.
New First-Year Student
If you're an incoming first-year student, you must attend a New Student Orientation session to meet your academic adviser and discuss your schedule. At that time, you'll be able to schedule your classes in person at the Registrar's Office or by using LionPATH.
Provisional Student
If you're a provisional student, you must meet with your academic adviser to discuss your course options and goals. Then you may register for courses in person at the Registrar's Office or by using LionPATH.
Advanced Standing or Re-enrolled Student
If you have been admitted with advanced standing from another institution or if you're an undergraduate degree student who has re-enrolled, you must contact the Advising Center to discuss your course options and goals. Following that meeting, you may register for courses in person at the Registrar's Office or by using LionPATH.
Non-Degree Student
Students who register for the first time and take classes through resident instruction as undergraduate non-degree students must complete the Undergraduate Non-degree Enrollment Form through the Registrar's Office. Enrollment as a non-degree student does not imply admission to the University. The student must make formal application in the Admissions Office to be considered for admission as an undergraduate degree candidate.
There are two categories of undergraduate non-degree enrollment:
Regular
There are no special restrictions to the non-degree regular status; advising is not required. All non-degree students register on a space-available basis.
Conditional
Students previously dropped from degree status because of poor scholarship at Penn State or any other college or university may enroll only in a non-degree conditional status. Restrictions are applied to students registering in a non-degree conditional status:
- Limited to 12 credits per semester
- Limited to 30 credits overall while in this status
- Must obtain academic advice before registering
