Graduate Makayla Brown-Paul hugged her family after Penn State Lehigh Valley's annual commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 8 held at the Lehigh Valley campus. The campus awarded associate and bachelor’s degrees to 72 students. The featured speaker for the event was Dr. Suresh Nair, physician-in-chief of Lehigh Valley Cancer Institute (class of 1982). Lehigh Valley Corporate communication student Savannah Malesky also spoke during the ceremony as the 2021 Student Marshal. Social media has become a platform for new mothers to openly share their experiences of the joys and challenges of parenthood. Researchers at Penn State and Dalhousie University have unraveled the sentiments in nursing mothers’ tweets to better understand the factors influencing breastfeeding behaviors, which they hope can inform policies and improve resources for mothers.

Researchers have collected, classified and categorized more than 19,000 tweets to give insight into the frustrations and joys experienced by breastfeeding mothers that could inform policies and interventions to support them.
