Members of Penn State Beaver's softball and volleyball teams adopt an abandoned building in Aliquippa's business district, giving it a lively new look. The teams joined fellow Penn State students and staff, community members and artists to clean up and add color to a few blighted city blocks along Franklin Avenue on Saturday, Aug. 20.

Freshman Nicole Pastorino chose the Penn State Beaver because she wanted a small, community-minded place to begin her college career. Pastorino got her first taste of that community on Saturday, Aug. 20 as she joined fellow Penn State students and staff to clean up and add color to a few blighted city blocks along Franklin Avenue in Aliquippa.

Penn State Beaver paints the town

Penn State Beaver sophomore Nick Pelino puts a "paw print" on a window in Aliquippa's business district on Saturday, Aug. 20. As part of New Student Orientation, Pelino joined Beaver’s Class of 2020, community members and artists to clean up, and add color to, a few blighted city blocks along Franklin Avenue. Theevent was a collaboration between the campus and the Franklin Center, an organization that provides human services, outreach and referral services to low-income and unemployed Beaver County residents.

Enrique Gomez, Ralph Colby and Scott Milner are working to design the molecular structures of conducting polymers for applications in flexible electronics. The work is focused on predicting fundamental polymeric properties, such as the stiffness of the polymer chain and other physical and chemical properties.
